Benefits of the Acai Berry

The acai berry is one of the products of the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil.  This naturally-occuring grape-like berry has been part of the Brazilian diet for hundreds of years, but we in North America have only recently heard about it and its benefits.  Since this popularity surge, the acai berry has been considered the top superfood in the world today.

Consuming the acai berry regularly has many benefits for your health, targeting nearly every system in the body.  Here are a few of the ones that have been discovered so far.

  1. It increases energy – the acai berry contains high levels of antioxidants, which gives a large increase in energy and stamina.  When taken regularly, it also boosts the immune system, which makes even more energy available.
  2. It fights disease – the antioxidants in the acai berry attack free radicals, nasty chemicals that enter the body from pollutants, cigarette smoke, and a host of other things.  Free radicals attack the body's cells, causing disease and damage to various areas.  The acai berry also has som ability to fight cancer.
  3. It fights obesity – the acai berry contains many things that work to increase functionality, process food, and burn fat efficiently.
  4. It improves sleep – some amino acids found in the acai berry relaxes stressed muscles.  Stressed muscles frequently affect the ability to sleep.  It also contains Vitamin B, which regulates the production of neurotransmitters that impact sleeping habits.

In addition to that, the acai berry has been shown to improve circulation, vision, fibre levels, and mental focus and clarity.  All the benefits are multiplied when combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle.

One of the only negative things about the acai berry is that once it is harvested, it typically is spoiled within 24 hours.  There have been many attempts to transport the berry to North America.  One of the most popular solutions currently is by way of supplements, but it can also be transported by way of berry juice and other products.

With no negative side effects and all the benefits, there has been little rejection of the superfood status.  Tests are still being conducted, and we may not yet know all the benefits that this little berry can provide.  All we do know is that it can do amazing things for the body.
